An alternative to registering a new domain is to purchase an established domain.  Search Engines also look at the age of the domain so the advantages should be obvious.  Most of the Webmaster Forums have a buy/trade section and this is a good place to start a search for an aged domain name.

• Choose a regional TLD if your target audience is from that country
• A Shorter name is easier for your site visitors to remember
• Buy an aged domain name if one is available
